UK: Continued focus on Muslims while ignoring the EDL
The threat from Islamist terrorist events is waning, but there continues to be vast expenditures by European governments of surveillance and even harassment of Muslim communities. The United Kingdom is at the tip of the iceberg. For the past several months we have been learning how the “Prevent” program of the UK Government – intended to prevent radicalization of British Muslims – is actually stigmatizing and dividing whole communities. As in the rest of Europe the growing threats lie in the rise of the radical right wing. The UK authorities are focusing on the wrong troublemakers and should be focused on real threats, such as the English Defense League (EDL) and the British National Party (BNP) who pose the greatest risk to British security. And – what should be more important for the UK is why British youth become radicalized to join the EDL and BNP.
